DYNAMIC MATTRESSES

Dynamic, alternating or active support surfaces consist of several air cells connected to a control unit, which delivers air via a compressor (pump), to inflate and deflate the cells at programmable intervals. This enables the surface to deliver active therapy by varying the internal cell pressures beneath the patient, resulting in off-loading of tissue. Dynamic surfaces support pressure ulcer prevention through pressure redistribution and off-loading. Pressure-redistributing devices must not be relied upon as a substitute for regular patient position changes.
